Meeting Caroline Catz!

Friday 26th April

Well obviously I woke up and that's pretty much where it gets hectic.. Literally as soon as I woke up that day started to fly, I was sharing a room with my Gran who was already up and showered by 7, you'd think she was more excited than me! Well I was told to shift and get up, so I got dressed, baring in mind no matter how sunny it was (which it was, it was a beautiful day down in Cornwall) it would definitely be windy! So I grabbed my jeans and a short sleeved jumper thing that doesn't really make sense and went over the book again a filled in some blanks. I felt a bit icky, but my gran put it down to nerves.

Around half seven we were called out for breakfast, I didn't feel well at all so I didn't really want to eat but I got told it'd settle my nerves although I didn't feel nervous. I ended up with a sausage sandwich. They brought it out and I kept gagging inside, I tried to take a bite out of it and couldn't keep it down (you probably didn't want to know this but it's part of the story so just go with it.) Well obviously I didn't eat that I just had some toast and tea. My mum said I might as well take the time to finish the book because it's no good incomplete is it?

So I finished my comment and stuck it in and looked over the book again, I was so pleased with it. I did it. I actually did, it was complete finally! And everyone said it wouldn't be finished! I stuck down the beautiful front cover, designed by the ever so talented Lauren Duarte and I did give ideas myself, but made and structured down to such fine detail by Lauren!
As lovely as it looked on the plain black background I really wanted to add in something else just to break it up a bit. I went with pretty much all I had available which was a bit of white and black ribbon which my gran tied into a little bow, which fit perfectly in the corner.
There's no marks on it, that's dirt on my camera sorry!
So that was it, it was finished now the only task at hand, and the most challenging so far was to deliver it to the woman herself!

The hours leading to meeting Caroline..

So this was it, time to get going, I felt surprisingly calm. I tipped the rubbish and scraps out of the plastic zip bag thingy given to me by Lauren and grabbed my Top Girls program (I met the rest of the cast on birthday and they all signed it, and Caroline's section was blank. I had to have it filled..) and 2 photos that I had for her to sign (One for Lauren as a surprise.) then got in the car and drove into Port Issac. On the way I went over it again, luckily I put a pen in the bag as well and added in a few missing words and took a video of the book.

Dad parked up by the Edge restaurant I think this is where it began to set in, when I saw the sea crashing hard I realised it was happening, but it didn't hit me completely because I hadn't really imagined how this was actually going to happen.. Does that make sense?

Well I was foolishly going to leave my coat in the car, but after losing a battle with my Gran about wearing it I ended up with it on. If I hadn't I might have died it was that cold.. Well anyway we walked down to the 'school' with me gripping to the book like my life depended on it down the coastal path. It was such a beautiful day! The sun was shinning high, I don't think I've ever seen a sea that blue!

We turned up at the school, there were camera vans pretty much everywhere so we were in the right place.. To be honest because the time of year we chose to go there weren't many people there at all.  Me and my Gran had gone ahead of my parents and found Kenny the security guard at the entrance to the car park thing at the front of the Old School Hotel. Gran and I went up to ask if it would be possible at some point in the day if I could meet Caroline and to check obviously if she was filming. Well the answer was yes to is she filming today but the answer to would it be possible to meet her was more.. maybe..ish. This is where Gran explained about the package in my hands, he seemed quite interested in it, so I explained what the book was all about all of you writing in it, which then developed that maybe into a I'll see what I can do, wait here. So I did, I went and sat on the bench just listening to the sea, day dreaming mainly when he came back out about 15 minutes later, to ask if he could look at the book. I'm guessing for security although when I finally managed to pull it from the bag, he said oh it's alright it's a private thing I don't need to see inside but I was proud enough to show anyone so he didn't have much choice.. He said it was brilliant and that it was a great thing I'd done. So it won him over, thank God it did or else I never would have had the opportunity to tell this story. Well he told me that I couldn't see her at the moment because she was filming, but later on when she's finished filming or has her break he'll see if he could get me up where she was to meet her and give it to her, I'd just need to wait while he spoke to filming crew or producers or something like that, so that's what I did, I waited.

I watched people stand on benches to try and get a sneak peek of the actors or the filming itself but that really proved impossible because it was inside after all. So I just sat on the bench and decided to actually read it, instead of skimming through it, like I had before. I few people questioned me about it and I was happy enough show it to them and explained about the fan page, a lot were interested which was lovely. There's not much I can say about the time before because nothing happened apart from watching people coming and going and then coming back and then going again.. I moved my spot a few times until I decided I'd sit on the step in front the shop and that's pretty much where I stayed after nearly getting myself knocked over a few times, oops.

Half way through the day things got a little stirred up when Joe Absolom and Ian McNeice were driven in, a lot of people seem to come from nowhere to take photos, they both smiled and stuck their hands up behind the window, which was nice.

Also to got back to the start where I felt unwell, a van turned up with trays upon trays of food, I still couldn't stand the smell and that made me feel horrible again.. also throughout the day my mum and gran have never brought that much food and kept offering it to me eventhough I said I couldn't handle it they wouldn't stop pushing it in my face...

All I really remember at this stage is that my family kept clearing off places every now and again leaving me on this step to hear some news then coming back every other 10 minutes usually one have them had bought something, and Kenny coming out every hour or so. He came out mostly to tell me just to try and stay put because he's doing all he can and the casting producer kept saying no, no it's not possible. Kenny was getting really annoyed because he said that he'd worked with Caroline for 8 years and she was such a lovely person, who would absolutely love meeting me, which made me very happy.. but most of all what was annoying him was that no one would tell her I was waiting and he couldn't really go inside himself to speak to her yet. At one point I remember him saying there will be no one more upset than him, other than clearly me, also he said at another time he had a good mind just to take me in himself. Oh and at one point, as I had nothing else to do I listened in to pretty much everyone's conversations close to me... I heard a man come up to one of the security with a black bag with a yellow lining, he then said "Here's Caroline's bag." I got quite excited and I'm not to sure why..

So that's pretty much all that happened..until it got to about 2 o'clock, when we saw Caroline's car being driven up to pick her and I saw Kenny look at me sort of panicky and up to now I'd been calm, like there's nothing to worry about it's all cool, but no it was more like oh my God I'm not going to do this am I? I'm not going to meet her now.

Not long after my gran had made friends with someone from Canada and she wanted to see the book so I got up to go over and show it to her around the corner from where you entered the car park bit, I got the book and listened as the book got more praise when suddenly all I heard was my Dad shout "VICTORIA!'
I don't think I've ever jumped so much in my entire life, spinning around thinking automatically I was in trouble, this is when I saw Kenny dash up to me and say
"COME ON QUICK!"
to say the least I was confused then it dawned on me, now is the time, go! Grabbing the book out of this poor woman's hands and shouting an absentminded sorry as I quickly went around the corner with Kenny to the side of me, brushing straight past some security who just looked at me like who are you?

I was in a complete daze and Kenny overtook me when I slowed down, then all I heard was "CAROLINE"
she turned around as I looked up and that was it I just stopped dead without thinking and just stared at her and it could have only been for a second but it honestly felt like I was stood there for 10 minutes. Then I got
"COME ON, RUN"
from him and he was so far away from where I was. I can't run great at the best of times but when I'm completely starstruck and wearing Dr Martens it seems to be even harder.. after tripping and nearly losing all dignity, I decided a fast pace walk would work just as well.

Well Kenny was away ahead of me stood not far from Caroline and pointed to my direction, I had by now finally made my way up the hill and to where Caroline was. I'm not sure what he said to her but as I started to come to a stop, I was greeted by Caroline smiling.. I'm sure if you're a fan you'll know when I say her full tooth smile she does? Well I hope you do. And a massive 'Hello!' so the conversation had only just began and I was totally gone. Bright side I still managed to say hello back..

So this is how it went..

She smiled as I came to a stop to the side of her and it had to be one of the weirdest things in the world, well you know when you hear people say after they've met their favourite person or whatever they tend to say something like 'it was like their was no one else in the world' and I know I've always thought how is that even possible that has to be over exaggerated. Well turns out it is actually true, because I don't remember Kenny moving around, like circling us (I only know now because you can see in the photos) I didn't know my gran had turned up and started taking photos and I also didn't see Ian or Joe who were behind us.. right well anyway she said hello and I managed to say it back, then I sort of smiled because she was smiling at me, probably waiting for me to talk, guessing most people plan or have something to say. Probably should have thought it through considering I had a good few hours before hand.. she asked how I was and I said I'm great thank you mostly just a conversation starter. She then asked me if I had anything for her to sign as she had been looking back and forth to the bag which in all fairness anyone would do. I guess I was starstruck.
"Yes, erm sorry."
"Oh, it's alright."
I got a bit shaky..er while I lifted the bag up to unzip it when she saw through the plastic to the Top Girls program and asked
"Is that Top Girls?!" and I smiled at the excitement in her voice because she'd mentioned in interviews how much she enjoyed that play, "Yes it is, but um there's this."
I opened the bag, with a struggle and wrestled with the bag again for about the 5th time that day (as the book was too thick, to really fit in by this point.) But this time I nearly dropped it - could you imagine 'Hi here you-' falls to the floor and falls apart 'oops, I'll just be going.' - this didn't happen, it's fine. So I got the book out as she watched me and attempted to help. I think and don't hold me to this, I might have put the bag on the floor instead of holding, I'm sure I must have because the bag isn't in a picture until she signs something for me.. back to the story sorry again. So I have the book in my hand and move closer so she can see.
"I made this, and.." I handed it to her, for her to see, "It's got a lot about you in." At this point talking wasn't my strongest point, I'd just like to point that out in defence of that brilliant description of the book. She nodded and smiled and began to flick through it,

I looked at her mainly to see how much she smiled, I'm guessing some photos brought back memories. She went back a few times to feel the materials I used, I think she looked at the stitching I did to bind the book together (that hurt so much, I pricked myself so many times sowing it together!) she kept telling me how beautiful and great it was, which I thanked her for. She made it to the back and looked a little confused at what to do now so asked "Did you want me to sign it?" I frowned a little, obviously our wires had crossed. "No?" She did look a little taken back but smiled anyway, because of that and I blushed and quickly corrected. "Well you can if you really want too." She went to hand it back to me, that's when I realised "Oh no! Sorry, it's for you!" She pulled it back and so cutely sort of gawped at me "What?" I nodded and repeated myself "REALLY?! What? Are you actually serious?"  I laughed so much "Yes of course! I made it for you, like a.. present sort of, if that helps."  She smiled so much and I've never felt so good in my life! She grabbed me and hugged me , I really didn't know what to do with myself, I didn't know if I could really hug her back..(don't ask) "I love it! I love it so much!" and squeezed me so my arms had to go round her back. This is where it set in what was happening and I started to cry a little, well whimper would be more accurate, and then answered back a "You're welcome." I don't know if it she noticed but I think she probably did. So we pulled apart and you could definitely see I was going to cry and she smiled sort of in my face and whispered "Are you okay?" (I can't even describe how much she smiled it was great...) I smiled so much it hurt my face "Yeah, I'm great." We both started laughing she hugged me a little bit and I stopped and she opened the book again then said something that shocked me a bit "You sign it!" I've never her someone sound so excited! I really wasn't processing anything that was going on "What?" Then she laughed while she repeated herself, I was shaking so much I could tell it wasn't going to work out well.. so for some reason I blurted out "No." Then laughed at myself, she joined in on that then said "Go on, you should sign it, please." So I did, from somewhere I got pen, I don't even remember going into the bag to get a it, but I must have. So she held the book in possibly the most awkward position, still shaking immensely I took hold of the bottom of the book on the back page and tried to sign it. It was honestly the worst looking signature "Yeah, it doesn't normally look like that." She smiled, she could see how hard it was for me but she said "Go on try again, you can do it." (new life motto) "Nope, can't do it." I kept trying but I just couldn't keep my arm still, so she laughed "You can!" She did still have her arm round my back, she steadied my elbow. So I tried again and it looked better but still pretty poor, "Yeah that's close enough." I laughed and she agreed. She started to look through it again and really focused on everything and looked at it so much closer, and just kept repeating "Oh my goodness." So I took it as she liked it.
You can see where I've circled my hand that I was nervous to put my round her like I explained.

She tried to look through it with her arm around me but that proved difficult so I ended up turning into face her, I must admit by the time she'd finished I was completely opposite her and didn't realise how close to her face I'd actually gotten, to get in a better position she kept sort of pushing me round by squeezing my shoulder. I was kinda scared to hug her back so I kept backing off until I thought this wasn't going to happen again and this is what I'd hope to happen.

So that part sort of ended and she asked if I had anything for her to sign, so I decided now would be a good time to explain why I had the Top Girls program. So I asked if she remembered when she acted in the play Top Girls in Coventry and if she remembered getting a letter. I was completely shocked by how accurate she was with the date when she said "Yes! Yes I do! I think I got when it was the last night wasn't it it. Was that you?" So I told her it was and she carried on. "It was the last night on the Saturday wasn't it?It was in the evening wasn't it?" So I told her she was right, this is when my Gran got involved and told her that it was on my birthday and how we'd tried to get me to meet her, also she told her that I had gotten upset and started crying. (Yep, thanks for that appreciate it Gran.) So Caroline nodded and turned back to me, I was now very embarrassed, I'd planned to leave out that I cried but still..
"I'm so sorry. I was told you waited for me at the next time I saw everyone. They said you got upset, I'm really so sorry, I didn't even know you were outside no one came out to tell me! "
"Oh no, no it's fine" I tried to laugh past the heat that was turning me red.
"It's just my mum came unexpectedly and she brought my kids with her, I hadn't seen them in so long!"
"It's honestly fine don't worry!"
"You do know that if I was told you were outside that I would have come out to see you."
"Yeah definitely." She sort repeated herself again.
"Promise me you know I didn't know and that I would have seen you?"
I shyly laughed about how caring she was, "Yeah."
"Promise me." She looked deadly serious at me, in the eye which struck me slightly.
"I promise, I understand it's okay."
"Good." She hugged me.. (I still think it's ironic how I thought she wouldn't hug me yet she did so often!) "So what have you got?" So I got the program out of the bag "Ouh!!" (I can't really spell the sound.. sorry) I passed it to her and she thumbed through it, reading the comments from all the cast members, smiling. She found her place and signed it for me..
It reads - xxxx Much love Caroline Catz xxx

I thanked her and she asked if there was anything else. So as a gift from me to thank Lauren Duarte for all her work and support throughout the process I decided I wanted to get her favourite photo signed personally for her. I got that out and explained it was for Lauren, she completely through me off guard when she asked how it was spelt to which I replied "I don't know." (I do know how too, I promise.) Then realised what I said and really how silly it sounded but still she went ahead and just wrote what she thought would be right.
Photo from http://fuckyeahcarolinecatz.tumblr.com/

She gave it back to me. "So what else is there for you?!" She honestly sounded so excited. I got my second photo out to give to her, she took it from me and burst into laughter "Where on earth did you find this?!"
"The Internet." I laughed as well.
"Wow, what's it from?"
"I'm not sure but I think it's... radio mania?" I did know, but like I said nothing was making sense.
"Yeah! Yeah that would make sense the glasses would..well yes." She shook her head but I didn't catch the end of the sentence because it was more to herself. She asked me how my name was spelt.. "V...i...c..." She looked at me with a smile "Wait, wait it's Vict..o..r..i...a yeah." I shook my head, she laughed.
"So normally then?" She sort of giggled but tried to hide it because I was now a lovely tomato shade.
"Yep, lol..." (yes I said lol oops)
It reads - Thank you so much Victoria with love Caroline Catz xxxxx

She smiled and shook her head at me as she signed it. She passed it back to me and zipped it back in the bag. We looked back at the book and she told me how much she loved it and said aw as she looked at the front and put her arm back round me. I heard Ken say "We best hurry up."  She seemed to ignore him, or she hadn't heard him or didn't know who he was talking to but he said it again and she snapped up and realised "Oh are we going to get into trouble?" She pulled a face and he gave a little nod "Okay." She nodded back, it looked at bit like a code. She turned back to me and said "Thank you so much for this! It is the nicest thing I've ever been given! I love it so much!" "Thank you, I'm so glad you like." "I really do!" We looked a Kenny and he jumping to get off "Thank you, it was great meeting you." "Bye." "Bye!" She waved as we walked back down to the gate by the road.

I got back to my parents and there were loads of people outside and I just burst into tears and my mum asked me how it was and asked if she was nice, I said "Yes she was so lovely!" I just kept crying then her car came out and swung round. She put her window down, she smiled and waved to everyone then looked around and saw me and smiled and put her hand up I just smiled, whilst crying still. She gave a smile, I'm sure you know that kind of face that asks if you're okay, and I nodded and laughed she smiled at me then shouted to everyone and said "SEE YOU LATER" She put the window back up but she kept looking at me until it was all the way up and drove off.

So after a very long wait that's the end, I hope you enjoyed reading it!

Adeventure to Port Issac: Day One

Thursday 25th April.

Let's get this story going then shall we. So we were meant to be up for 6a.m to be able to get my gran for half seven and get on the road. Well this didn't go according to plan - but we could hardly expect it..with us nothing ever does!

So what went wrong?
We woke up late..not VERY late but late enough to turn the morning upside down..we woke up 6.30..not late like I said but with 3 people fighting for the bathroom all demanding a shower, there was a slight issue..anyway that's beside the point we did eventually get going after I nearly forgot the book thinking it's in the car when it wasn't. Honestly would have cried if I'd not remembered to check last minute and stormed back into the house.

After getting on the road I began to add 'finishing' touches on the book, which really means filling in 6 sections, which is pretty bad considering there is only 6 sections in the whole book. This included Fan art, Fan edits, Links, Top Girls, Characters and Comments. So basically in the entire book there was A LOT to do! Although I really don't know why considering how long I spent on it, it never seemed to end!

We were finally going and I was working away cutting, sticking and trying to write neatly on bumpy roads (Doing last minute homework on the bus has really paid off) but then I had another crisis. I ran out of decorative paper. The one thing crucial to making it look pretty and decorative had ran out. We were driving through Devon at the time and we some how managed to find a small service station where I had to improvise and buy cupcake wrapping paper and butterfly wrapping paper, and it was possibly the best thing to ever happen it made it look so much prettier it just sort reflected off the light and looked wonderful if I do say so my self.

We got to our beautiful little bed and breakfast in St Teath which is literally the next village down it's tiny mind. I loved it there, if you are planning to go and can't get anywhere in Port Issac I'd defiantly recommend Path's End it's wonderful and the owners are so friendly.

We agreed to head straight into Port Issac but then my parents persuaded me it'd be best to get as much of the book done in case we bumped into her while we were there. So I did as much as I could but there was far to much to be done so we left it and I wasn't really worried because I knew there was no scheduled filming and I just had the feeling that I wasn't going to 'bump into her' so I said we should just go. This was quiet a while after we got there mind because we got there for about half 11 and didn't leave until one.ish - I don't know the exact times.

Driving into Port Issac was like a dream and walking around blew me away. I absolutely love it there, I felt so happy, much happier than I had been in a long time. We walked up to the Old School Hotel and looked around, the view is stunning.

After we went up to Mrs T's shop or The Buttermilk Shop (http://www.buttermilkconfections.co.uk/) which is its actually name in the village and spoke to a lovely man there who was so friendly and helpful. The shop has some beautiful little trinkets and some gorgeous sweets, we went back and forth as my Dad has quiet a sweet tooth and I just liked the feel of the shop, the atmosphere is so welcoming where ever you go.
From there we headed up to the Doc's house, I was mainly focusing on my rural landscape photography and this was the perfect place to go. Every where you go can't escape the beauty! Up to the Doc's house we headed.

We walked up the huge hill so I could get a better shot of the surrounding scenery and we decided we'd walk around some shops and head back. We were walking back down and we noticed that they were busy building Large's restaurant, so my Gran being the most forward person on the planet chooses to shout to the men setting up to ask if they new when filming starts. This isn't the embarrassing part, you'd think it's quiet a good thing but you could tell she was going to drag me in to it and start explaining about the book to men who only did set up. Me, mum and dad pilled into the nearest shop. I soon got volunteered to go and rescue them, going out to my Gran we were right she was busy telling them all about the book and how much I loved Caroline and they were like that's really nice. They said eventually that it was said they should be filming at the school the next day but, didn't know the times and who would be there, we thanked them and left swiftly. After looking about for a bit and Dad got splashed by the sea we went back to the Buttermilk Shop and spoke to the man again who spoke about Caroline and Martin explaining how nice they were to me and Gran once again explained about the book and he said she'd love it and I suppose he was right. He kind fully filled me about filming while my family were out talking to a woman from New Zealand. After that we looked about a bit more and stumbled across the notice board for filming and saw it started at 9.00a.m and it didn't take a genius to work out who would be filming at the school really did it? I pestered my parents until they finally agreed to get there when it started and really I think if we didn't we wouldn't have the chance to meet her because that's when it started to fill up a bit but as the day went on it thinned out. But that's for another day. We agreed to get up earlier and get there for as close to 9.00 as we could because that's when it started.

We left and had a short drive to St Teath, got changed and went to the local pub and had a lovely meal. I also had to take to book because of the amount that still needed to be completed! We stayed from about 7 o'clock to gone 11 o'clock and IT STILL WASN'T FINISHED. Very close mind it was just my comment, the front cover and finishing decorative work but it still wasn't complete. I gave up knowing I needed to be ready for the day ahead and headed back to the B&B and fell asleep not really knowing the full extent of what would unfold the next day!

(I didn't know where to fit it in but practically every shop in the village has a signed photo from each cast member and it's so weird being like wow they've been here too aha. Jusy thought I should add it in.)

Adventures to Port Issac: The preparation

Day One.. 25th April 2013.

So it all started on Thursday 25th April..well that's not strictly true, a lot(!) happened the day before! So I'll start from there I suppose..

Okay so let's start again. It all started on Wednesday 24th April, I got a half day at school, because I had tons of work on the book to do! Literally, I hadn't wrote the comments out at this point (which by the way I'm sure there was about 30) I had no fanart, no front cover, nothing written about top girls..let's just say I was vastly behind.

So once I finally got home, I started on the book I got the some sections almost complete, but none of them were actually full till about 8.20 Friday morning, I met Caroline at around twenty past one Friday afternoon, so saying I cut it fine is a slight understatement and I kept telling my mum I was close to finishing, not quite releasing how long this lot would take! Everyone was so behind on Wednesday it was unreal we didn't even pack till gone Eleven at night because we'd all been rushing around, mum ended up going around town looking for a skirt for me because mine ripped. Dad was cleaning the car, mum was cleaning the whole house for some reason and then my Gran needed to be picked up from Tesco, I needed to print off 10 sheets of pictures at her house because our printer broke just before I started the book which made EVERYTHING difficult! We then had to get trainers for Dad because his sole came off and then we spent 2 hours looking for a pair and then we needed to get food because our cookers broke AND THEN we packed! While this all happened the book was left at home incomplete..

So once we were all packed and ready to go it was around midnight so we were all beat, and did have to get up at 6a.m..That's when the real fun started!
